In The Words of Lucy....

I've been surprised with some lovely little gifts lately. Just-because and for-no-reason presents are always the best.
(Also known as Unbirthday presents)

Remember when I made a book box? Well a friend of mine made one for me! So now I have my own.
(Austin Kleon-esque art and all)

A cute little treasure chest, beaten and scratched up all rustically and stained.
(Is it bad that I really like the way stain/varnish smells......?)

A hand carved owl for my owl collection.
His name is Julius.

Some Fellow Etsy'ers

Then again I don't know if I can say "fellow" since mine isn't open yet.....
But regardless, check out a fun new article on two local artists (pictures taken by me of course) who have some super unique and funky pieces that you are just going to love. Met these two at First Friday's a few months back, and they were extremely sweet and fun to talk to for a bit.
Lisa (on the right) is wearing a bathing suit from an Italy flea market as a tank top.
Talk about style.
I love it.

The weekend is here! Hurray! Go do something fun.

I've Given Up On Being Good

Yes. I've given up.
I just can't stay away from thrift, consignment and antique shops. I adore them. They make me happy. I get 56 times the amount of stuff for 1/16 of the price. As long as I give things away as things come in.... where's the harm?
In case you were wondering... dresses in particular are my weakness. There have been very few retro flowered dresses I've been able to pass up.
Don't judge me.

A few recent thrifty finds:

On a similar note, check out this article of thrifting tips written by a lovely friend of mine. It's spiffy.

Anti Productive

Sometimes I really should be trying to actually get the 49 things I need to get done, done, but instead I find myself doing things very similar to this list.... (found here)

20 great excuses for not getting anything done while at a coffee shop.

1. I don’t like this chair.
2. I’m tired.
3. I can’t remember what I am working on.
4. I’m simultaneously too warm AND too cold.
5. Adult attention deficit disorder.
6. Memories of childhood. So deep.
7. There are too many people fussing with chairs around here.
8. I’ve had too much coffee
9. I haven’t had enough coffee, and I can’t find the waiter.
10. My face hurts.
11. I can’t remember what I am working on.
12. There are people speaking French near me, I am reminded that I need to brush up on my French so I can eavesdrop on French people more.
13. Identical twins exist, and it’s a miracle of nature. I want to celebrate this.
14. the clock has stopped.
14. the clock has stopped.
14. the clock has stopped.
15. I remember my lunch too, too vividly.
16. I am wearing a new pair of jeans.
17. I have to move on.
18. They’re playing Michael Jackson so I OBVIOUSLY want to dance, but that would be weird, so I have to just dance in my mind, and dancing in my mind takes serious concentration.
19. I would rather just talk.
20. I am out of excuses.
Here’s a good solution: sit back, relax, and use your phone to look up herbal remedies for a.d.d.

Pretty sure Zooey Deschanel and I are kindred spirits.
At least I'd like to think so.

Richmond Comedy Coalition

The Richmond Comedy Coalition recently featured one of my photos of Brian McDaniel on their poster for their upcoming improv comedy show.
Pretty cool stuff right?
So I went to the show last night, and never having seen any sort of improv comedy before (other than Whose Line Is It Anyway....) I wasn't sure what to expect. However it was a great show, everyone did a fabulous job and I'm still impressed with how people can work off one another like that and make a skit up right there on the spot. It was pretty hilarious.
